Accessibility statement
How this website is designed to be usable by as many people as possible, and how to tell the foundation when something gets in the way.
Our commitment
The Heather Rensberry Memorial Foundation wants everyone, including people with disabilities, to be able to find information about its work and get in touch. This website was built with accessibility in mind and aims to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What has been implemented
- Responsive layouts
Pages adapt to phones, tablets and desktop screens without sideways scrolling, and text can be enlarged with browser zoom.
- Keyboard navigation
All links, menus, buttons and form fields can be reached and used with a keyboard. Dropdown menus open with Enter, Space or the Down arrow and close with Escape.
- Visible focus
A clear outline shows which element has keyboard focus, and a skip link lets you jump straight to the main content.
- Semantic HTML
Pages use headings in a logical order, landmarks for the header, navigation, main content and footer, and native elements such as lists and expandable sections.
- Screen reader support
Links and buttons have descriptive names, decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology, the current page is announced in the navigation, and links that open new tabs say so.
- Accessible forms
Contact form fields have visible labels, required fields are identified, and errors are described in text and linked to the field that needs attention.
- Contrast and readability
Text and background colors were chosen to meet WCAG 2.2 AA contrast ratios, body text is set at a comfortable size and line length, and meaning is not conveyed by color alone.
- Reduced motion
The site uses very little animation. If your device is set to reduce motion, the homepage animation and smooth scrolling are turned off.
Known limitations
The contact form relies on your device having an email application configured. If it does not, you can copy your message using the button provided, or write directly to info@heatherrensberrymemorialfoundation.org from any email service.
Some external websites linked from this site, such as news articles and government services, are not controlled by the foundation and may have their own accessibility limitations.
This website has not been through a formal third-party accessibility audit or certification. The foundation treats accessibility as ongoing work.
